From Luggage to Luxury: The Great Goyard
Now, we have some exciting news for you all. We are introducing Goyard to our collection. If you have not heard of them, where have you been?
A Journey to Greatness
Like any successful company there have been some notable milestones within their story that have ensured their continued success within the modern world of luxury.
Maison Goyard, or simply 'Goyard' was officially introduced in 1852, in Paris. Like any longstanding and successful company evolved over the years. Let's look at how this iconic company came into play.

Originally created by Pierre-François Martin in 1972. Maison Martin specialised in box-making, trunk-making, and packing. As a childless widower, Pierre was the guardian of a woman called Pauline Moutat. He arranged her marriage to one of his employees, Louis-Henri Morel. As part of the wedding the company was included within a dowry. Morel was then introduced the “Successor to the former Maison Martin, located on rue Neuve-des-Capucines, near Place Vendôme".
In 1845, Morel hired François Goyard as an apprentice. This gifted 17-year old boy received exceptional training under the guidance of both Martin and Morel. In 1852 Louis-Henri Morel died. By 1853 François Goyard officially took over and changed the name of the business to Maison Goyard. He remained for 32 years at the helm of a house that he took to a whole new level. He later handed over the reins to his son Edmond in 1885.

Edmond Goyard brought innovation to the brand. Transforming the rue Saint-Honoré comptoir into a global luxury institution, opening stores in Monte-Carlo, Biarritz, Bordeaux, and trade offices in New York and London. He introduced Goyard’s first advertisements, showcased at World Expositions, and collaborated with Rheims & Auscher to create products for automobiles.
Edmond also launched the iconic “Chic du Chien” line for pets, offering stylish coats, leashes, and accessories, with playful Belle-Époque ads featuring dogs dressed in finery. Cats and monkeys weren’t forgotten, with their own bespoke travel items. Goyard revived this tradition in 2008 with a “Chic du Chien” boutique at 352 rue Saint-Honoré, opposite its historic flagship store.

When Edmond Goyard created the Goyardine canvas in 1892, he drew deep inspiration from his family’s history. The dotted pattern references the log-driving work of his ancestors, forming a triple chevron design that subtly creates a “Y” shape—the central letter in the Goyard family name.
Much like an artist signing a painting, Edmond Goyard signed his canvas. His name, written in white, stands out prominently, while the address of the Paris store is subtly spelled out in two shades of brown. The word “Paris” is repeated twice and arranged in a centrally symmetrical stack. Notably, Edmond Goyard was the first Parisian trunk maker to integrate his name into his canvas, creating an instantly recognisable hallmark of craftsmanship and heritage.
Edmond then expanded Goyard’s offerings to include handbags and hat boxes. By 1998 the company was acquired by the Singles family who revived the company into the modern day, the emphasis being on the exclusivity and rich heritage. The brand famously avoids advertising the typical sense, which continues to be part of its success.
Since it's second coming the company has continued to grow in success and exclusivity is still a strong element of the company. A-listers, Celebrities and Influencers such as Rihanna, Usher, Pharrell, Kim Kardashian are just some of those often photographed with these iconic bags.

Now, what makes them so popular in the world of Glitz and Glam?
