Locked in Love: How to Spot an Authentic Cartier Love Bracelet

It's a subject we have discussed previously, however, in a world where counterfeits are constantly being produced, our dedication to authenticity not only protects our customers but also helps curb the production of these fakes.

The Cartier Love Bracelet is an iconic piece of jewellery and a prime target for counterfeiters. Ensuring its authenticity is our sourcing department's top priority. We want to share some key factors we examine, from the design of the boxes to the finer details of the font used. While some aspects are easier to verify, the evolving nature of counterfeits means identifying fakes can be challenging. Here are some techniques to help you spot imposters.

The Basics:

  • Weight and Material: Genuine Cartier Love Bracelets are crafted from high-quality materials like 18K gold, giving them a noticeable weight. A bracelet that feels too light or off in material may not be authentic.
    • Pro tip: Check if the piece is magnetic; All fine metals such as gold, silver and platinum are not magnetic.
  • Screw motif: The iconic screw motif design should all be perfectly stamped and aligned with each other throughout the bracelet; the size and shape being uniformed and consistent.

Technical Details:

  • Screws: The screws should be perfectly aligned, sit flush and when secured feel tight and secure.

    • Remember, there is the old design – whereby each screw comes out completely, the more modern design the screws stay secured to the bracelet.

  • Craftmanship: Screw interface and groves should show clean and sharp craftsmanship. Counterfeits often look messy, uneven, and not as smooth.

  • Hallmarks and Stamps: Inside the bracelet, you'll find clear hallmarks indicating metal type (e.g. "Au750" for 18K gold), the italicised Cartier signature, a copyright symbol, and a serial number. The serial number should be consistent with Cartier's records, and the bracelet size should also be listed inside. At times you will also find a maker's mark or manufacturer's code.
    • Pro tip: The copywrite symbol should be circular, not oval.
  • Font: This is a trickier aspect and can take time to recognise. However, the font style and spacing should be consistent.

These insights can help you ensure that your Cartier Love Bracelet is authentic, safeguarding your investment and the integrity of this timeless piece. We will always recommend purchasing through a trusted and reputable dealer or Cartier directly.
